House update

The house is treating us fabulous, we absolutely love it! We’ve got about 1400 finished square feet and for most people that’s not much but to us it’s like we’re living in a castle. Coming from an apartment with the tiniest kitchen and absolutely no storage space to our house where we can’t even fill up the cupboards or the closets.. it’s a pretty great feeling. We really haven’t unpacked much, the office is filled with boxes that we don’t know where they should go or don’t really care right now. We know we’ve got to tackle that one of these weekends or else we’ll just get lazy and leave it there. Pretty much everything we need to live day to day is already unpacked so we forget about the crap.. err stuff we’ve been storing all these years! We’ve got a list of projects that we want to do, mostly DIY stuff that I know is much harder to do than it looks like on the video online! Here’s a run down of the projects..
1. Currently we’re refinishing our kitchen table. We’ve done this before- the table started out with green table legs and green spindles on the chair with a light wood finish for the table top and the chair seats. Last year before we moved into the apartment, Ryan and I sanded down the green paint on the legs and spindles and repainted them black. So then we had a black and light wood finish table. But now that the house has dark cabinets and flooring we wanted the table to fit in better. So last week we started to sand the seats on the chairs and stain them a darker walnutty color. Well.. they turned out okay.. at least one of the four did. There’s one that we really love and the 3 other’s just don’t quite look the same. So we set aside the chairs and focused on the table top, this time instead of sanding that whole thing down and having an aching right arm for the next few days, we put this stripper stuff on it, let it set and the finish came right up. Ryan put the first coat of stain on last night and he seems to be very happy with it. He’s more of a perfectionist that I am so I gave up about midway through and let him finish. We’ll put on another coat tonight and hopefully it will all look good together. I’ll get before and after pictures up soon!
2. Putting knobs on the cabinet drawers and doors. The least exciting of all projects I think.
3. I need to find an old cabinet door.. There was a project in the Spring 09 issue of Do It Yourself that turned a cabinet door into a corkboard and we really want to try that. Any ideas where we could find a few old cabinet doors?
4. In that same issue there was a table cloth that was made from a basic white flat sheet and “delish” was painted on in neat writing. I want to attempt this but the sheet was lined with a pretty satin-like border and I would need a sewing machine to finish it. I don’t have a sewing machine and really don’t want to spend the money on one.. think I can hand sew it? Probably not. This project may never happen :-)
5. Make a headboard for the spare bedroom. It looks so plain without any furniture in there so we definitely need something in there!

There are probably 50 more things to this list but that's all I can think about right now.. at least the fun ones :)

Our First Post

After a few of my friends started a blog I loved the idea and wanted to try too. I say try because I don't know how well we can keep it up but we'll give it our best shot! So tune in for all things Ryan and Sheri related: wedding, house, work, what we watched on tv last night.. we're definitely not the most exciting people in the world but at least we find each other funny :)

On a normal day...
